Hey there and welcome to the debut of our brand new feature, Midweek Procrastinator. We know Wednesdays are hard so we try to make them a little easier by recommending some beautiful new music you could listen to (instead of working).

Horrid Red - I’m Terribly Hurt

Ever wondered what the Cure would sound like if they were singing in German on a beach? Californain/German band Horrid Red is probably as close as we’ll get and their gothic surf synths are pretty damn good.

Chris Cohen - Caller No. 99

Chris Cohen has worked with Ariel Pink and Cass McCombs in the past so we would expect no less than sweet, lo-fi 70s radio pop. After stints in countless bands, he’s going it alone and does it in style - melodic guitar and a laid-back vocal make this a pop gem.

Floating Action - Not What I Came For (Jim James Edit)

Pulsating drums, synths and bass drive Seth Kauffman’s (aka Floating Action) lazy vocal drawl and Jim James makes sure there are never too many instruments at a time. A recipe for sparse, spaced-out bliss. Complete with a free download via RCRD LBL.

Listen and download here.

The Critters - Visions Of Light

Driving, psyched out punk a la Ty Segall employing fast/slow drumbeats, monosyllabic lyrics and veers towards a freakout at the end. Pure garage fun.

CHVRCHES - The Mother We Share

The euphoric CHVRCHES have huge crossover potential, like a more disco version of Best Coast. Complete with “oh-oh”s, this textural 80s pop makes for excellent end-of-summer material.
