Our artist of the week Tom Copson has taken part in our Song Selection feature (previously called Song For a Song), where we ask Mr Copson various questions and he responds with a song. Simple.

What is your favourite song by yourself?

Never Awake

I think that when I ponder about my favourite I’ve written, it’s hard to ignore the memories of the writing process. Taking this into account I think ‘Never Awake’ is my favourite as I was able to write it very quickly, however it took me ages to perform it at a good level. It was like I wrote beyond my comfort zone.

Can you name a song that inspires you?

There are loads for many different reasons. I am going to say ‘New Born’ by Muse because as a teenager it made me jump/dance round the room on my own and that feeling should never be underestimated!

Is there a song that brings tears to your eyes? Be it happy or sad.

For some reason I’m not a massive cryer to music, I am to films though (probably because I’m so much less attached to the medium). The way the song ‘About today’ by The National is used at the end of Warrior literally cripples me with tears. So I cry to that song for sure.

A song by an artist you think are going to make it big soon.

A big singalong song.

The song that makes you dance.

Obviously ‘New Born’ by Muse, but also ‘d.a.n.c.e.’ - Justice
